Teresa Ascone, a lifelong Alaskan, keeps a studio in the Meadow Lakes area of the Matanuska Valley and lives in Anchorage, Alaska.

Her impressions of nature are portrayed in a distinctive, romanticized style, featuring colorful flowers, animals, and landscapes.

 

An award-winning PBS-produced video, Landscapes of the Imagination-The Art of Teresa Ascone, honored her in 1988. She taught watercolor for more than 35 years which led to her two books, We’re All Artists: Watercolor for Everyone and Painting Pleasure: Adventures in Watercolor, and The Ultimate Palette, for which she holds a design patent. Teresa’s teaching resulted in her nomination for the UAA 2000 Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Since 2010, she has traveled to many foreign ports as she teaches watercolor on cruise ships. Teresa has ventured into licensing, her work featured on gourmet tea labels, toiletries, tempered glass kitchen art and gift shop items. Creatures of the Wild I and Creatures of the Wild II fabric collections were licensed to Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Her collection, Wildflowers by Teresa Ascone (Clothworks), was released April 2016 and continues to be available in Alaska.  P & B Textiles premiered her Nature’s Garden in 2018, and more collections followed: Rock Garden,  Majestic Mountains, Fracture, Flower Jewels, Magnificent Animals,  and Garden Delight. Teresa's passion is wheelthrown pottery, which is currently available at Kobuk Coffee Co. in downtown Anchorage.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

When I began to paint, my perceptions changed and it was as if I saw everything through a lens of creativity ~ how would I paint those mountains, that tree? 
Fascination and the lure of wielding magic have kept me engaged in the world of art. Yes, magic, because there is something magical about the way a two-dimensional object can be created to attract the viewer into its world. My art continues to evolve as new tools come into play ~ computer programs add more magic to the mix as brush and paint become stylus and pad to create a launching ramp into different realms. These elements and my love of nature will always call to me...to admire, to draw, to paint, and communicate the wonder.
